The story behind Usevalor | Estimated resale value

Why I built it

This really started from the same problem I've had for years buying and selling second-hand. I wanted to test whether you could just take a picture of an item and immediately get help understanding roughly what it's worth. A bit like my own valuation process, but automated.

How it's built

AI is used to try to understand what's in the picture and then weigh different market signals together into an estimate. I've built very iteratively with AI agents: build something, test it on real items, find everything that doesn't work, and do it again.

The hardest part

The picture is really just the beginning. Recognising "an iPhone" is easier than understanding the exact model, condition, storage and which details actually affect the price. And then the valuation still has to feel reasonable.

Up next

I want to make the flow even simpler: image in, as few questions as possible, and a good answer out. Then we'll see how far the project goes. A lot of what I learned here has already ended up in other projects.
