The story behind solelkollen

Why I built it

I have a fairly large solar installation myself, and it bothered me that the information was spread across apps, electricity bills and different portals. I really just wanted to be able to answer the simple question: how are my solar panels actually doing, and has the investment been worth it?

How it's built

It's built on data from my real installation and real costs, not some example system. I've connected production, energy data, prices and more than 200 actual electricity bills, and built the interface around the questions I want answered myself.

The hardest part

Getting the economics right. Production is fairly easy to show, but once you start counting grid fees, bought and sold electricity, different prices, months and payback, it quickly gets far more complicated than you'd think.

Up next

I want to go from just my own installation to letting more people add theirs and compare how different systems actually perform. I'm also experimenting with a small physical display that shows Solelkollen right on your desk.
