”A colouring book made from photos on your phone. Personal gifts are hard to find and often expensive; here you get a wonderful personal gift for a few hundred kronor.”
The story behind Kritly — your personal colouring book
Why I built it
I wanted to try AI coding and had lots of ideas. In the end, it became this colouring book.
How it's built
The site is built in Lovable, with Supabase for the database and storage, Stripe for payments and Google's Gemini for turning photos into colouring book pages. The system creates a print-ready PDF for each order and sends it via API directly to a Swedish print shop, which prints and posts the book to the customer. No login is needed: you upload photos, see the whole book and only pay if you like it. The original photos are deleted as soon as the book has been generated.
The hardest part
Finding a print shop. AI coding is so good that the technology was never the bottleneck. I needed four things at once: uncoated paper you can colour on, printing in Sweden for reasonable shipping costs and delivery times, a low page count and an API for automated single-copy orders. I tried Lulu (printed in France, delivery up to four weeks), Gelato (the right paper was only available in formats produced abroad, and shipping jumped from SEK 35 to SEK 350 without explanation) and several European networks before settling on a Swedish print shop with its own API.
